Sea Fox flags and jackets, smoke, confetti, drums, and amazing graphics–Galantis brought all the gimmicks and a wild performance.
The crowd packed in for the Swedish EDM duo’s sold out show at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on Saturday, March 18. Both Christian Karlsson and Linus Eklöw have impressive careers outside of Galantis. You may have heard of Grammy award-winning Karlsson through his membership of prominent music group Miike Snow. Additionally, he has helped write and produce tracks for major artists such as Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and Jennifer Lopez. Eklöw, better known by his stage name Style of Eye, has co-written and co-produced many songs including Icona Pop’s hit “I Love It” featuring Charli XCX.
Galantis made sure to let the crowd know that they have been waiting to play in San Francisco and that they love the city. These guys definitely had their routine down. In perfect unison they would dance, drum, and even put their headphones on–it was impressive to see them so in sync with each other. Laughing and smiling the whole time, it was obvious that Galantis is passionate about what they do and have the times of their lives on stage.
They played all their hits such as “No Money,” “Runaway (U & I),” and “Peanut Butter Jelly” as well as their newest single “Rich Boy” and remixes ranging from “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran to "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" by Whitney Houston. Smoke and confetti exploding into the crowd was not uncommon on their tracks’ heaviest of drops.
With constant movement, there was never a dull moment. Galantis first came on stage waving flags that sported their famous Sea Fox mascot–half fox, half jellyfish–who is featured on all of their album cover art. Later in their set, they even brought out a dancer dressed as the Sea Fox which was a crowd favorite. The hype was cyclical and mutual, both Galantis feeding off the audience’s excitement and the audience feeding off Galantis’ lively performance. As Galantis danced all over the stage and jumped off their DJ table on their songs’ drops, the crowd jumped and yelled creating an energetic atmosphere.
With a giant LED screen running graphics in the background and an additional screen mounted on the facade of their DJ table, there was never ending stimuli–always more to look at than could possibly be seen. Galantis also had an elevated line of drums set up on the uppermost tier of their stage platforms where they would run up and hit the drums to the beat which not only had aesthetic value, but also further revved up the crowd. They ended their set by holding up a sign that said “#SEAFOXNATION WE LOVE YOU!” with two praise emojis and of course an illustration of their beloved Sea Fox.
Missed Galantis this time around or haven’t had enough? They will be back in California next month to play one of the biggest festivals of all time… Catch them at Coachella this April, you won’t want to miss them performing live!
