Flashing red strobe lights and HDYNATION flag in tow, Flosstradamus hyped the crowd from the moment they set foot onstage for the Hi Def Youth Tour. A full house packed into the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on Nov. 5 to see the acclaimed Chicago-based DJ duo perform live. The pair wore matching camouflage outfits and their stage was set up with props to make it look like a military fortress, a similar feeling to their stage props on their 2014 HDYNATION Tour, which helped to solidify the group’s aesthetic.
Acting as a hypeman, Josh Young danced around a lot while Curt Cameruci spun tracks from his DJ booth on top of the fortress. Since the duo was elevated on their set props for the majority of the set, there was not a bad spot in the venue. Everyone on the floor was in the thick of the madness while still being able to see and the balcony had an unobstructed overview of the entire stage and pit. Young would occasionally go down on stage to dance and smash water bottles onto the bouncing crowd or walk over to stage right to shoot off merch from their t-shirt cannon into the audience, not that fans weren’t already swagged out in their own array of band merch, including their own Flosstradamus-branded flags, masks and apparel. The triangle hand sign that replicates the Flosstradamus logo was also not an uncommon appearance.
Between their own tracks such as hits “Too Turnt Up,” “Mosh Pit” and “Soundclash,” Young gave multiple shoutouts to fans of trap music, weed smokers and Latinos. Additionally, the duo dropped remixes of everything ranging from Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot” to System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!” during which they instructed the HDYBYZ to split the crowd down the middle and create a wall of death which then turned into a moshpit. Quite fittingly, Flosstradamus also showed love to the HDYGRLZ and told them to get up on someone’s shoulders while blasting a remix of “All The Way Up.”
The crazy lights and visuals on the LED screen behind the stage props were conducive to a crazy crowd that jumped with hands held high for the entirety of the set. From the first to last drop, there was not a dull moment with Flosstradamus on stage. The crowd was nothing less of too turnt up.
